Why Should You Worry About My Vaccinated Child If Being Anti-Vaccine Works So Well
Del Bigtree and Toby Rogers, the authoritarians behind the “medical freedom” movement

One of the oldest and most noxious anti-vaccine talking points, a true Point Refuted a Thousand Times (PRATT), is to disingenuously wonder “Why should you worry about my unvaccinated child if vaccines work so well?” However, now that anti-vaxxers have power and are smelling blood, they are the ones worrying about whether or not strangers are vaccinated. Today the tables have turned, and I am forced to ask “Why should you worry about my vaccinated child if being anti-vaccine works so well?”
The Atlantic recently published a profile of Del Bigree titled ‘I Genuinely Am Upset That Your Kids Are Vaccinated’. “Del Bigtree, a longtime ally of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., isn’t just anti-vaccine. He’s pro-infection,” it said, as if this was some great revelation rather than the movement that gave rise to MAHA. The article reported:
That brings us to Bigtree’s second, arguably more outrageous claim: Vaccine-preventable illnesses simply aren’t so bad. He wants children, including his own, to get infected so that they can avoid the dangers of vaccination and develop more robust immunity. They will have, as he put it, the “Ferrari of immunity,” while the rest of us will be driving around in Ford Pintos. He told me he would prefer to live in an entirely unvaccinated country, one where the diseases that sickened millions in the first half of the 20th century could spread freely. That’s a frankly ridiculous notion, as I told him later. But Bigtree is committed to it. “I genuinely am upset that your kids are vaccinated, because it’s keeping my kids from getting chickenpox. It’s keeping my kids from getting measles,” he told me. “I believe their health depends on them catching those live viruses.” I asked him if he wanted his kids to catch all of the illnesses against which American children are routinely vaccinated. “Yes,” he said.
On X, however, Dr. Toby Rogers, a Brownstone Institute flack and member of Kennedy’s committee to “fight against autism”, had a different reason to oppose strangers getting vaccinated. Commenting on the FDA’s recent mRNA flu vaccine debacle, he said:
Dear @SusieWiles:
If the Moderna mRNA flu shot is approved, the medical freedom movement will abandon the Republican Party in the midterm elections. That’s not a threat, that’s a promise.
If the mRNA flu shot is approved then all of these dumb normies who get it will shed all over the rest of us so even if you didn’t take the stupid shot, you’ll still have the side effects. It’s the ultimate Pharma business model — a wave of illness every year caused by the shots.
So, let’s be clear what is happening here. Bigtree is upset that vaccines work so well that they prevent his unvaccinated children from getting sick and suffering (fact check: true). Meanwhile, Rogers claims that vaccines are anti-effective, they “shed” sickness and disease. Of course, this blatant contradiction won’t bother either man. They are united by their mutual desire to sicken children with dangerous pathogens and their authoritarian rejection of medical freedom.
And they are winning. They are using the government to impose their will on us all. Today the headlines about the US read RFK Jr Cancels $500m in Funding for mRNA Vaccines for Diseases like COVID, while the headlines about elsewhere read European Regulators Recommend Approval of Combined mRNA Vaccine for Flu and COVID. I’d like for that vaccine to be available here in for me and my parents, but it’s not, and the people responsible are not hiding their future intentions. They never did.
