Bill Nighy & Roman Griffin Davis Head to Ireland in '500 Miles' Trailer

"I said I'd get you there – and I will." The first official trailer has premiered online for an indie film called 500 Miles, a family dramedy made by British filmmaker Morgan Matthews. This will be premiering at the 2026 Dublin Film Festival coming up this March, but it doesn't have any release date ready after then – though it's expected to open first in Ireland and the UK before it hops over to the US later this year. Two brothers run away from home in England to reach their estranged grandfather on Ireland's west coast. The film is a poetic, life-affirming road movie and celebration of the human spirit that follows a broken family who are forced to come together when two young brothers leave home. The cast is led by Roman Griffin Davis, Bill Nighy, Maisie Williams, Dexter Sol Ansell, Clare Dunne, Michael Socha, and Loré Adewusi as Tomo. The boys end up on an epic adventure departing from Yorkshire, over land and sea, to the wild west coast of Ireland. But it's really about family and reconnecting despite problems. Worth a look. Based on the 2018 book Charlie and Me: 421 Miles from Home by Mark Lowery, the script of 500 Miles is penned by Malcolm Campbell. The story begins at the crack of dawn, when Finn and his younger brother Charlie run away from home to avoid getting split up by their separating parents. They're trying to reach the wild west coast of Ireland, home to their beloved and eccentric granddad, John, whom they haven't been allowed to see since all the fighting began. On their 500-mile journey across land and sea, they must survive on their smarts, charm and the kindness of strangers – especially that of a free-spirited street musician, Kait, who is escaping troubles of her own. 500 Miles is directed by British producer / filmmaker Morgan Matthews, director of the other films A Brilliant Young Mind and The Railway Children Return previously, plus lots of other TV movies. The screenplay is written by Malcolm Campbell. Produced by Alex Gordon, Martina Niland, David Thompson, Keren Misgav Ristvedt. It is first premiering at the 2026 Dublin Film Festival coming up this year. No final release date has been set yet - stay tuned. Look any good so far?
