Comparing Microsoft Copilot and Anthropic Claude suggestions for applying the 2026 Pantone Color of the Year, Cloud Dancing, to Data Visualization color schemes with a Summary Overview of Microsoft Copilot, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, and Open AI ChatGPT-5 recommendations sandwiched in.
In this writing, I examine Microsoft’s Copilot and Anthropic’s Claude solutions for building data color schemes with the 2026 Pantone Color of the Year. Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year is PANTONE 11–4201 Cloud Dancer, “a billowy white imbued with serenity”. As noted in my prior writing on Google Gemini and ChatGPT suggestions, it can be difficult to build color palettes based on this neutral color. Gen AI recommendations that span including Cloud Dancer as (1) the selected background color, (2) a hue in the color data palette, and (3) the midpoint in a diverging color scheme are compared. Let’s begin discussing these challenges by reviewing the Pantone Color of the Year and data color schemes concepts.
Pantone’s Color of the Year Concept:
The Pantone company produces the Pantone Matching System (PMS) and the Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors (FHI) System, proprietary color spaces. PMS is used primarily in graphics for printing, packaging, and digital media. FHI is used in a wide range of other industries including fashion, cosmetics, fabric, plastics, and paints.
