It's been said time and time again that the iPhone 18 Pro will sport a noticeably smaller Dynamic Island. Now, yet another report has reiterated the claim.
While the iPhone 18 Pro isn't expected to feature any major design changes, Apple's next high-end iPhone is set to receive new under-display technology that will reduce the Dynamic Island.
Following a January 2026 post with alleged dimensions of the new-and-improved Dynamic Island, a repeat rumor now says the iPhone 18 Pro will indeed receive a modified camera cutout.
As reported by Bloomberg on Tuesday, Apple is planning a redesigned, smaller Dynamic Island for the iPhone 18 Pro. The change is to be expected at this point, given Apple was said to have been working on under-display Face ID as far back as 2021.
Under-display Face ID rumors for the iPhone 18 Pro go back years
A December 2023 rumor claimed that Apple's under-display Face ID hardware would debut in 2026, which would coincide with the release of the iPhone 18 Pro.
Analyst Ross Young, in May 2024 and May 2025, echoed rumors that Apple's under-display Face ID design will arrive in 2026.
Multiple sources have reported on the apparent display-related change in store for the iPhone 18 Pro. In May 2025, claims of an under-display Face ID system for the iPhone 18 Pro reappeared, this time from a Weibo leaker, who reiterated their stance shortly thereafter.
The same source repeated their claim about under-display Face ID once more in June 2025, and again in September 2025, October 2025, and November 2025. Only a month later, another leaker also said the iPhone 18 Pro would get under-display Face ID.
In short, the rumor mill believes the iPhone 18 Pro will get under-display Face ID. However, there have been varying claims about where Apple will place the components of its revamped Face ID module, and what the Dynamic Island will look like as a result.
Why the Dynamic Island won't move to the top left corner
In January 2026, YouTuber Jon Prosser, who was sued by Apple over iOS 26 leaks, claimed the iPhone 18 Pro would feature a small Dynamic Island at the top left of the screen.

Despite dubious rumors, the iPhone 18 Pro likely won't have its Dynamic Island in the top left corner.
The same month, however, leaker Instant Digital chimed in, saying that Dynamic Island wasn't moving to the left side of the screen after all.
Instead, they claim that only the Face ID infrared sensor will be moved to the left, with the Dynamic Island and front-facing camera still at the top center position.
"The front camera on the left side of the iPhone 18 Pro is a complete misinformation," writes the leaker (via Safari translation.) "I suspect that the English author made a translation error."
Later in January 2026, leaker Ice Universe said that, on the iPhone 18 Pro, the Dynamic Island would be reduced by 35% from 20.76mm to 13.49mm. They also provided a mockup showing a noticeably smaller Dynamic Island, still more or less centered in the top display area.
At the time of writing, it looks as though Dynamic Island will decrease in size with the iPhone 18 Pro. Its position, however, appears as though it won't change, as only the Face ID sensor is expected to move to the top left corner.
