Apple's AI delays are fodder for class action lawsuits
Apple has requested that the lawsuit against its AI delays and response to an Epic injunction be dismissed. It cites that both counts are unsubstantiated.
There are multiple lawsuits around Apple's delay of a more personalized Siri. One class action suit is being led by South Korea's National Pension Service, and claims that Apple's recent actions have cost billions in stock market losses.
According to a report from Reuters, Apple is being targeted by two counts of defrauding shareholders. The first claim is that Apple is overpromising Siri capabilities,
The second claim is that the company is doing a poor job of complying with an injunction related to the Epic lawsuit.
Apple filed for dismissal of the class action lawsuit, saying that both claims are unsubstantiated. The dismissal filing by Apple also says that there is no proof that Apple knew that the AI features would be delayed when they were announced in 2024.
Also, Apple says that its response to the Epic injunction on anti-steering practices had no guarantee of meeting requirements. The company had submitted changes in accordance with the order, which were only deemed unsatisfactory at a later date.
"It is no secret that Apple faced challenges and weathered ups and downs in its stock price in 2025, like many major companies," Apple said in the request. "But plaintiff takes a massive and unsupported leap by claiming that securities fraud caused the temporary price drops."
The claims by the pension fund also center around losses due to drops in the stock between May 3, 2024, and May 1, 2025. The stock price on May 3, 2024, was $183, $213 on May 1, 2025, and is $272 today.
A frivolous lawsuit at best
Perhaps the pension fund would have avoided those losses by following the age-old advice of Apple stock — hold it. For ethical reasons, I own no Apple stock, but it's clear that ups and downs happen in the market, and it amuses me that failures of an investment firm in its guesswork about future value could lead to a lawsuit.

Apple products have been selling well, AI or not
Select features of Apple Intelligence were indeed announced then delayed, but nothing was ever guaranteed. These features are still coming, but I've pushed back hard on the narrative that Apple misled its customers.
First, never buy a product — or stock — on the promise of a feature that isn't out yet. Second, iPhones sold well in spite of delays, suggesting customers didn't care about the AI features being there or not.
The claims around the Epic injunction are even more odd. Apple may have failed to meet the court's expectations, but the allegation seems to be that Apple did so intentionally.
Why Apple would want increased regulation and scrutiny for what amounts to pennies on the dollar is beyond me. While it may appear to be the case for outside observers, Apple isn't in the business of intentionally antagonizing regulators.
If the pension holders have anywhere to direct their ire, it probably should be aimed at whoever makes the decision to buy or sell Apple stock. Time will tell if Apple manages to get this class action lawsuit dismissed.
